Chapter 9 Summary
This reading is particularly meaningful to me because my occupation for the past 5 years has relied on E-Commerce. I worked at the Chewy FC in Hanover for 3 years, and have worked at ID Logistics Amazon SDC going on 2 years now. Because of this, I have learned a great deal about logistics and warehouse setup, having performed nearly every possible work function for these warehouses. At first, even while working in E-Commerce, I never bought anything online. I was so scared of giving my payment information to anyone online that I never did it until a year or so ago. Since then, I can say I totally relate with the reading’s statements that people are less careful and put less thought into what they buy online. It does lend itself to frivolous purchases; my bank account can attest to that.
I remember hearing a lot about eBay growing up, as my father did a lot of buying and selling collectibles on there. I’ll be considering making an eBay account to sell some extra junk I have lying around. Being a writer, I found it hard to make any sort of money using my skills. Little did I know that Upwork exists. To think, I could possibly have made a bit of money if I only knew where to look for work in that field. Now, I’m not expecting to find anything, what with the existence of AI text generation. On a totally unrelated note, I was amazed to read that the number 4 symbolized death in the Japanese culture. I wonder how that ended up being the case.
